Crawl is a Palm application which enables users to keep track of progress of a trip in real time. In short, it is a poor persons GPS. Unlike GPS you will still need your paper charts to find your position but Crawl calculates your progress using distances and speed that you insert in your Memo Pad. To use Crawl just enter details of a trip or hike into your Memo Pad. Each entry or waypoint must be on a separate line with a place name and a distance separated by a tab character. The first item which must be the departure point should have 0 (zero) for the distance. For the want of a better description you can call this Home unless you have an actual name of a Town or airport. As memos can get deleted or lost you should save your favorite trips in some other document in your computer such as My Documents for safe keeping. You may prefer to keep your favourite trips in a separate category in Memo Pad. When you enter Crawl and click on the ''Memo Data'' button you will see your list of memos just like you see when you open Memo Pad. Select your trip or tour and then press the ''Use'' button and your selection will be transferred to Crawl and open up the Action screen ready to go. You must enter a speed in the Speed field and if desired set a speed increment with the drop down list at the top of the screen. Press the ''Start'' button and you are on your way. While the trip is in progress Crawl will keep your device awake but if you Pause for some reason (coffee break) then it will go to sleep. Just turn on your Palm and press the ''Resume'' button to continue with the trip. When you reach a waypoint Crawl will sound a chime and proceed to the next segment and continue happily until it has reached the destination. During progress you can change the speed increments and increase or decrease the speed as required. If for some reason you overlook a pause period or reach a waypoint ahead of time just hit the ''Go Next Waypoint'' button. A word about the speed and distances. As no conversions are required for this program what you put in is what you get. You can put kilometers, miles, feet or whatever as long as you know the speed for whatever units you are using.
